Fatal December Motorcycle Accident Leads to DUI Charges for Port Richey Man

Pasco County authorities arrested a Port Richey man last week who they say is responsible for a December car accident that took the life of a woman on a motorcycle.

Police say Patrick Lee McKinney was driving his motorcycle in mid-December last year when it allegedly struck a pick-up truck near the intersection of U.S. 19 and New York Avenue. According to witnesses at the scene, McKinney appeared intoxicated at the time his motorcycle struck the truck, saying that the collision sent his passenger Monika Elizabeth Wicks flying. Investigators say Wicks finally came to rest over 200 feet from the site of the collision.

Wicks, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, did not survive the episode, and Pasco County emergency responders declared her dead at the scene. McKinney was transported by ambulance to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with critical injuries, but ultimately survived.

The 30-year-old Indianapolis native was arrested on May 8 and charged with DUI, two counts of DUI with property damage, DUI accident with death, DUI causing serious injury, operating a vehicle without endorsement, driving with an unassigned license plate, and failure to register a motor vehicle. He is currently being held without bond at the Pasco County Jail.
