A fight between two Plant City men last month left one dead and the other charged with his murder.

Police say Moses Wilson and James Michael Meeks, who were both residents of the same address south of Plant City, became engaged in an argument over an undetermined issue on the evening of February 24.

According to authorities, the disagreement became violent when the 23-year-old Meeks brandished a pocket knife, menacing the 49-year-old Wilson with it. Police say Wilson retreated into his home, which doubled as his car-repair business, with Meeks close behind.

Witnesses say Meeks proceeded to stab Wilson with the knife, wounding him twice in the left leg and once in the right leg. Though deputies responded soon after the incident, they were unable to save the mortally wounded Wilson, and he expired at the scene.

Meeks, who is listed as a laborer at a local delivery service, was arrested late that evening and faces charges of second-degree murder as well as an unrelated charge for failure to pay child support. He remains in the Hillsborough County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
