Imprisoned Man Charged With Murder After Victim of Alleged 2010 Shooting Dies in January

corrections-70322_640.jpgEight years after the incident for which he will soon be called to court to answer, a man already in a Florida prison is facing first-degree murder charges now that a man he allegedly wounded in 2010 has died.

According to Pinellas County authorities, on February 4, 2010 James Stewart Riddle was identified by deputies as the shooter who wounded two men in the Lealman area of unincorporated St. Petersburg. Deputies responded to a homicide call in the area and discovered John Roland, 25, already deceased and Aaron Reny, 30, grievously wounded.

Investigators say they came to suspect Riddle of the act not long after and arrested him later that same day. He pled guilty to first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder at a trial 32 months later and was subsequently given a 38-year sentence.

Reny survived until just over one month ago, when he passed away at a local hospital. Upon his demise his remains were turned over to the medical examiner who, after conducting an autopsy, declared that the 37-year-old's cause of death were as a result of delayed complications from the several gunshot wounds he sustained exactly 2,900 days earlier.

Riddle, who is now five years and three months into his 38-year sentence, was transported from his cell at Okeechobee Correctional Facility and charged with first-degree murder by a Pinellas County judge on February 5.
