Jacksonville Teen Sought in Connection with Grandmother's Murder Stopped at Canadian Border

A suburban Jacksonville teen was apprehended at the Canadian border last week allegedly fleeing after county authorities suspect him of killing his grandmother.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection detained Neptune Beach resident Logan Tyler Mott as he attempted to cross into Canada at a border crossing near Buffalo, New York. According to Duval County authorities, Mott is likely responsible for the murder of Kristina June French

Investigators declined to divulge many specifics, but they classify him a prime suspect in the killing of his 53-year-old grandmother who was considered a missing person until her body was discovered buried in her own back yard.

French was declared missing a week earlier when she didn't arrive to meet Jacksonville Sheriff's Office corrections officer Eric Mott at the airport. Mott found his own home upturned and his firearms missing and, upon reaching French's residence, discovered the same situation there. In addition, French's late-model coupe was unaccounted for as well.

An investigation the next day turned up what police classify as evidence of foul play. The following day saw the authorities unearth French's remains beneath a thin layer of earth in the backyard of her now former residence.

The 15-year-old Mott was initially stopped due to a warrant issued in relation to his alleged theft of French's vehicle. He is being held on those charges at present, but Duval County authorities classified him as a "person of interest" at the time of this writing.
