Brooksville Apartment Complex Manager Charged with Purloining Property’s Payments

Brooksville police say a local property manager stole tens of thousands of dollars in rent and fees while working as a property manager earlier this year.

According to Hernando county authorities, Maria Danielle Marriage absconded with around $45,000 in the months between May and September. Investigators say the fees she allegedly wrongfully pocketed included rent and security deposits, among others.

Her former employer, an apartment complex in south Brooksville, says they conducted an internal audit and eventually involved law enforcement in a four-week investigation that ultimately led to charges.

Investigators say the woman, who turns 36 today, altered the computer’s record system in an ultimately futile effort at concealing the alleged theft. She turned herself in at the Hernando County Detention Center last Tuesday and was charged with larceny of between $20,000 and $100,000. She posted a $5,000 bond later that day and was released.
