New Port Richey Woman Accused of Attempted Murder After Allegedly Torching Estranged Husband’s Bed

Pasco deputies say a New Port Richey woman tried to murder her estranged husband by setting his bed on fire.

Eva Marie Brennan was arrested last Friday on charges including attempted murder. According to authorities, Brennan was at the mobile home in which her estranged husband James Jr., their son James III, and his girlfriend Christie Carr currently reside where she saw James Jr. with another woman. Eva, who does not now live at that residence, left it that night before he retired for the evening.

Deputies say James Jr. awoke just before sunrise on Thursday with the bed he was on engulfed in flames. With flames blocking the doorway, Carr says James Jr. called out for help, which James III attempted to provide by filling pots and pans with water in an attempt to douse the conflagration. The two men were finally able to extinguish the flames after they drug the mattress outside the structure and into the yard. Police say the fire left James Jr. with blisters on his hands and a burn on the sole of his right foot.

According to the report, Eva returned to the residence and admitted to setting the fire to James III. Deputies arrested the 48-year-old Boston native that evening and booked her into the Pasco County Jail on one count of attempted felony murder, one count of arson resulting in serious injury, and first degree arson of a dwelling. She remains incarcerated in lieu of a $110,000 bond.
