HCSO deputies arrested a Valrico man last week on suspicion of initiating a fatal car accident while intoxicated last November.

Andrew John Wallace Jr. was allegedly piloting his 2003 Nissan 350Z on Brandon Parkway just past midnight in late November when police say he lost control at a curve in the road at Pauls Drive. According to the police report generated at the time, Wallace’s vehicle careened into a concrete median and subsequently struck a tree on the passenger’s side.

Riding with Wallace that night was Ivan Ordonez, who was seated in the passenger’s seat. Police say Wallace likely did not apply the brakes before the car struck the tree, which caused it to enter the area where the 23-year-old Ordonez was seated, ending his life.

First responders say Wallace was unconscious when they found him. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. While there, detectives say they spoke with Wallace, noting the smell of alcohol upon his breath. A blood test for blood-alcohol content taken three hours after the incident registered a BAC of 0.093%, which was 0.013% above the legal limit in Florida.

Wallace was arrested by Hillsborough County deputies earlier this month and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on a single charge of DUI manslaughter. The 25-year-old was released within the hour upon posting a $25,000 bond.
