Already a guest of the Hillsborough County sheriff, a Clair-Mel man is now facing manslaughter charges in Pinellas County for an altercation that led to the death of his girlfriend late last year.
Michael Thomas Valenti was arrested in early April on charges of felony petit theft and violating probation, which was the result of a previous domestic violence conviction.
Pinellas County investigators say Valenti was conducting home repairs at a Madiera Beach residence in November when he and his girlfriend, Alison Marie Birch, became involved in an argument. They say that, despite the cause of the argument remaining unclear, the result was a physical altercation that left the 38-year-old Birch with a head injury.
Authorities say Birch was later found to be unresponsive in the couple’s home, and she ultimately succumbed to the injuries despite receiving medical care. Hillsborough County investigators initially investigated the death but stepped aside when they determined that the death was a result of the alleged incident at Madiera Beach in Pinellas County.
Valenti allegedly admitted to his involvement in Birch’s death to Pinellas detectives while in custody at the Hillsborough County Jail. He will shortly be extradited to Pinellas County to face manslaughter charges. Jail records indicate that he is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
