Lake Worth Man Shakes Bottle of Rum at Authorities After String of Car Crashes

Witnesses say a Lake Worth man showed an even more surprising lapse in judgment than usual vehicle accident suspects when he allegedly shook a rum bottle at first responders who arrived at the scene of his final wreck that night.

Thirty-five-year-old Edelman Nogueira-Ventura is facing charges of failing to remain at crash with severe injuries and leaving scene of a crash with property damage. Although Nogueira-Ventura appeared inebriated at the scene, he is not charged with DUI due to the fact that the alcohol level in his bloodstream registered 0.063%, which is lower than the 0.08% limit established by Florida law.

Witnesses say Nogueira-Ventura piloted his Ford E-250 into another vehicle in Palm Springs, flipping the other vehicle and injuring its driver. One witness followed Nogueira-Ventura as he allegedly struck several other vehicles, while an off-duty Palm Springs law enforcer describes seeing the van driving on its wheels sans tires running a red light and striking a light truck.

Another set of witnesses at the scene of the final crash indicate that Nogueira-Ventura attempted to flee that one as well, but his van was no longer operative at that point. Nogueira-Ventura is then alleged to have exited his van while shouting incoherently. He then shook a bottle of Bacardi rum at first responders, and kissed the ground before being taken into custody. He was subsequently released from Palm Beach County Jail after posting a bond of $3,000.

Nogueira-Ventura is well acquainted with area authorities, as he has been arrested in the past for burglary with battering, fleeing and eluding, grand theft, trespassing, and battery. However, the charge of battery is the only one of the list for which he was ultimately convicted.

There was no word from authorities nor witnesses as to how full the Bacardi bottle was at the time of the alleged waving.
