Pinellas County School District Social Worker Charged with Third DUI

School social worker Keeley Bremer of Clearwater was arrested and charged last week with driving under the influence in Pinellas County. She was pulled over at 10 p.m. on Thursday night on U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park after an officer allegedly saw her car drift into another lane and nearly hit another car.

According to law enforcement, Bremer failed field sobriety tests and had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance and the odor of alcohol on her breath. Authorities also say she has been previously convicted of DUI on two separate occasions, once in 1999 and once in 2004.

Bremer works as a social worker for the Pinellas County school district, at a number of different schools. If a school employee is found guilty or pleads no contest to a crime, the employee goes through the school district's disciplinary process.

Under Florida's DUI laws, Bremer faces conviction of a third-degree felony due to her repeat offender status. If convicted and shown to have been convicted two or more times in the past of DUI, she can be sentenced to prison for up to five years. In order to prove this, prosecutors will have to prove not only the DUI but also must obtain certified and authenticated copies of any previous DUI convictions whether they are from Florida or out-of-state.

If convicted of the current charge, Bremer also faces a 10-year revocation of her Florida driving privileges and a mandatory 30 day jail sentence, even if she is granted some form of probation. She could also be fined up to $5,000.
